What is Industrial Counseling?

Industrial Counsellors support people with psychological wellbeing, career development, and relationships in the workplace. Our role is not limited to responding when someone is already experiencing serious difficulties; they also help people understand stress, prevent problems from escalating, and make thoughtful decisions about their working lives.

Three Main Areas

Mental Health and Wellbeing
Industrial Counselors support people experiencing work-related stress, emotional difficulties, burnout, or challenges returning to work after a period of absence. They can also help individuals recognize early signs of distress and explore ways to protect their psychological wellbeing.

Career Development
Work and careers often involve periods of uncertainty, transition, and change. Industrial Counselors help people reflect on their values, strengths, concerns, and future direction, whether they are considering a career change, adjusting to a new role, or questioning what they want from their working life.

Workplace Relationships and Working Environment
Difficult relationships, communication problems, cultural differences, and workplace dynamics can significantly affect wellbeing at work. Industrial Counselors help individuals better understand these situations, develop healthier ways of communicating, and consider how they can respond to challenges within their working environment.

A space to understand what is happening and decide what comes next

Industrial counseling focuses on psychological wellbeing in relation to work and working life. Our conversations may explore workplace relationships, stress, cultural adjustment, career decisions, communication patterns, boundaries, motivation, or personal concerns that are affecting your professional life. My role is not to tell you what decision to make. Instead, we work together to understand your situation, recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and identify ways forward that make sense for you.

Counseling with an understanding of Japanese and international workplaces

I am a qualified Japanese Industrial Counselor with a background in psychology, international HR, and more than a decade of experience working in international professional environments. Having worked extensively with people across cultures, I am particularly interested in the psychological challenges that can arise when people live and work between different cultural expectations. Luz Counseling was created to provide international professionals in Japan with a place where those experiences do not need to be explained from the beginning.

Confidentiality

The aim is to provide a space where you can speak openly and honestly without fear that what you say will affect your professional reputation or relationships. There are limited exceptions to confidentiality, such as situations involving a serious and immediate risk of harm or where disclosure is required by law, and these boundaries will be explained clearly at the beginning of counseling.
